Leaving Montenegro

Main marinas for checking in and checking out from Montenegro waters are: Bar, Kotor, Budva and Tivat (Portomontenegro is recommended)

In Zelenika (on the way from Kotor to Herceg Novi) check in and check out procedure can also be completed.

When a crew decide to leave Montenegro waters they must complete Harbour Master, Police and Customs procedure in the marina closest to the point exit from Montenegro waters. After these procedures are completed the crew must leave Montenegro waters.

Winds

Main winds in Montenegro are bura (NE), jugo (SE) and maestral (NW).

Bura – strong, sudden wind, blows in shifty gusts and mostly during winter months. Its strength and direction greatly depends on localised configuration of the landscape. It creates irregular steep waves and brings nice and clear weather. Bura rarely blows during summer months.

Jugo– warm wind of constant speed and steady direction. Its speed rises gradually and it usually blows with gale force only after 2-3 days of blowing. Jugo is stronger on the open sea. Jugo brings clouds and rainy weather. It rarely blows during summer months.

Maestral – daily sea breeze which sets in mostly by the end of the spring. Maestral is frequent in summer months when it blows almost every day. This daily wind starts to blow between 2 pm and 3 pm. Maestral is very pleasant for sailing, with wind strengths mostly in 10-15 kt range.

Beaches

The Montenegro coast measures 293 km of which 73 km are beaches. Sandy beaches comprise 33 km. The coastline has the four main Rivieras: Tivat Riviera, Kotor Riviera, Ulcinj Riviera and Bar Riviera. There are many beautiful beaches in each one.
